Hello all,
Long time lurker and first time poster.
I own a couple of yi xing tea pots which I brought back from China a while ago; one for darjeelings, one for Pu Erh. Recently I got a new (and unused one) on ebay.uk for wu long, knowing that the quality may not be ideal but that it may do for now. Trouble is: it mightn't. I have noticed that there is a continual grainy clay deposit one some areas of the bottom. I've brewed an inferior wu long to check how this may affect the infusion, and so far haven't noticed an alien taste- still this is annoying. Might this be due to an inadequate temperature when making the pot, or merely to poor material and subpar craftsmanship generally ?
I am now looking at other yi xings for my wu long teas. I have been looking at models from TeaVivre, from whom I have ordered before with great satisfaction. Could anyone recommend them, or any other makers ?
Many thanks !
Re: Defective Yi Xing
What kind of water do you use?
Sounds like scale to me. Should be harmless to the pot, though you could try seeing if water with fewer dissolved solids (and / or descaling your kettle) helps at all.

Re: Defective Yi Xing
Thanks for your reply ! I use tap water. I'm currently in an area where it's good enough to brew tea in. My relatively new Bosch kettle has a filter built in, and on reading your suggestion I've had a look- no sediments. I should have been more precise- the issue is that parts of the bottom of the yi xing seem to be eroding.
Re: Defective Yi Xing
Hrm, maybe I am imagining it wrong. It can be hard to take pictures inside pots, but maybe try to post a picture?
My guess is that it's nothing to worry about, though.
