Menghai Dayi Golden Needle White Lotus

I've read many good reviews of the Menghai Dayi Golden Needle White Lotus. I'm planning to order another batch of samples soon and was looking over various fairly (as far as I know) reputable vendors. I know there are plenty of discussion about puerh pricing, etc out there, so I'm not necessarily trying to start another of those discussions, but in looking over the pricing from one well known vendor on Ebay, I noticed that their cakes of 2010 Golden Needle White Lotus are priced significantly lower than both older and younger cakes of the same tea. (Being a fairly new forum member, I can't post links yet, but if you do a search on EBay for 'Golden Needle White Lotus' you'll see what I mean.)

Any idea why this is? I can't imagine that year would be that much worse than the others, would it? And as far as I can tell from searching around the forums, that vendor has a decent reputation for not selling fake Menghai cakes like some others have been suspected of.

Lastly, while we're at it, have any of you tried this tea? If so, what did you think? I'll probably order a sample regardless at this point, but just curious about your experiences (and ideas about the goofy pricing.) Thanks!

Prices are supposed to come down, but that is a pretty popular shu.

As far as trustworthy? dunno.

Looked at the image, it's not a fake, but a shanzhai knockoff, so it's not a deception, just not Dayi. Menghai DaTang, not Taetea. Uses 2008 wrapper as basic image.

In 5 years of buying and friends buying, I have never gotten or heard of any "fakes" from Berylleb. Great sellers fast shipping and very secure packaging. All my cakes look like the ones on the Dayi home site. The way they are wrapped, security seals in correct places and uv light fluorescent seal .

Can't found 2010 Dayi Golden Needle White Lotus at my trustworthysource but for your reference price of a legit GNWL cake in GD:

2006 601 590RMBish
2012 201 190RMBish
2013 301 145RMB

So anything lower than this is fishy(pun not intended).

As the other guy said, the other GNWL is not fake but using the same name and similar design. just like the supermarket home brand coca cola LOL

I tried the 2012 version and was not all that impressed relative to the outlandish price. It was a good and smooth shu to be sure, but far from the best I've had. Berylleb is charging $90 for that cake, which to me is crazy. Lots of other good choices for half the price. Don't get me wrong, though, they are a good seller in my opinion.

Wow, the 2007 GNWL is up to $130+ per cake on eBay? Happy I still have two cakes, but wish I had bought the tong when I had the chance. Personally, I think the 2007 Mengku Gong Ting is 95% as good for about 15% of the price.

I've enjoyed almost all the Mengku I've tried so far. I'll give that a try when I place my next YS order.

They are pretty good.

Really wish I'd bought more 2007 GNWL cakes when I had the chance I thought it was expensive-ish at the time but now it's crazy!!

Any GNWL lovers here who know a similiar shu for a better price?
