Hou De?

by drinking_teas » Sep 25th, '14, 18:52

Has anyone here tried Hou De's Taiwanese oolongs? Price/selection is very attractive, but the minimum size is a turn-off. Don't want to be stuck with 150g of gaoshan if I don't like it.

I know this is old, but I'm surprised that nobody responded.

Hou De is one of the better ones in the west. If you haven't already, you should keep looking; most of his teas start at 50g. Most are also a little on the expensive side. However, if you place an order then you can request a sample in the comments (no guarantees, but you can always ask; you're definitely more likely to get a sample of something that doesn't cost that much).

This year he's selling his gaoshan in the original 150g packages with no samples available. I'll order some when I'm all out, his prices are excellent.

The 2009 Buddha's Hand is really good if you like Old Man Tea! Super dark dark.

I have two of the 150g teas...the A Li Shan and the Shan Lin Shi. The Shan Lin Shi I've opened and I like it quite a bit. It's not mind blowing or anything, but it is a good value for the quality. I've always had good luck with Hou De.
