by cnltc345 » Jan 12th, '15, 20:57

Hello,
I was looking at this yixing teapot:

What do you guys think? Is it a good one? Any recommendations? Thank-you.

I have bought something from this sell a few years back a much less expensive item. The seller has mass-produced items with a bit of a mark-up for the US market.

I don't know if I'd spend this kind of money on ebay when there are sellers who many of us know better who can better match your $200 bucks.

It might be "old clay" (how old??)-- That seems to be the only selling point. I have seen pots that look this nice for much less.

So what kind of quality should I expect/get with a $200-250 range?

Here are a few sellers that I have bought things from with good results.
http://sampletea.com/
http://www.tea-masters.com/

also consider:
http://teahong.com/
http://www.teakingdom.com/
https://www.essenceoftea.com/

Hmmm am I leaving anything out?

If you want to buy a mass market pot comb aliexpress until you find a good deal similar risk to ebay.

Personally, if you are looking for that 180ml range, I'd snag this and spend the savings on good tea! But that's just my 2c.

Thank-you futurebird and tingjunkie for suggestions. About that 190ml teapot, it has single hole, but what worries me is that if it gets clog would it be easy to unclog it since the spout have a very curvy shape?

Yes, that's a legit concern. You can buy these very cheaply, or make your own out of 99% silver wire like I do.

I'm sorry to say I forget. Been a while, and my old order invoice is not available on the Rio Grande website anymore. I think it was 16 guage, but I'd probably step it down to 18 as the 16 was just a tad too thick (if I remember correctly).

Yes, it is a good pot but 4 years ago you'd pay $100 for it. I still remember the good old days when Shouzhen Zisha used to sell all their pots for that price (really $99, lol). Today no more.
