Yixing Suggestions

by TeaDizzle » Jan 30th, '15, 22:25

I am looking to spend ~$100 on a yixing for aged sheng <100ml if possible as I would be drinking myself. I would greatly appreciate a specific pot suggestion or if nothing else advice on a theoretical "ideal" pot to look for. Not sure if clay/style/shape matters don't care what artist of factory or what era just want a pot in that size and price range.

Came across these two on sampletea.com and not sure if they are suited to my application and/or worth the money.

Red Skin Dragon, Wild Red Clay?

Sounds like a Taiji move more than a Yixing clay type.

I'd go for the qing shui ni one.

I have one of the hong pi long pots, I'm happy with it. I've never used it for puerh though, mainly roasted oolongs, but I imagine it would work fine for puerh. I'm sure the qing shui ni would be a good choice also.

I have the 60ml Qing Shui Ni from Sample Tea. It has a strange smell that never went away after boiling it, so I don't use it.

Try the teaswap section on here. I bought my aged sheng pot from there (wert's Factory 2 60ml Shuiping)

Have you tried pouring boiling water in it, leaving the lid off, and letting it sit for 24-72 hours? This has taken the odors away in some old pots I have acquired, but be sure to leave the lid off. Cheers.

Yes, I actually submerged it in boiling water for an hour or so and let it sit until the water cools. I have another teapot from the same vendor that also has a smell that my other yixings don't have.

I think the yixings on Teamasters website look decent.

That is too bad. I have two pots from this vendor--one of which was acquired secondhand after the vendor sold out of it--and neither one has a smell.

Same here, I have four pots from sample tea with no weird smell. I consider them a reliable vendor

Not saying they're not reliable. I have another hongni pot from them that's fine. Maybe it's nothing, but there definitely is a smell there with the other ones.

Have you talked with them (Samplepots) about it?

No I didn't talk to them. I had the pot for a couple years now. It might be fine, but I don't use it to be on the safe side. My camera isn't the best.

Thanks. I'll try this and let it air out and see what happens.

If you can't get the smell out I'll gladly buy it from you and see what I can do :D
