In terms of sencha, will Ippodo or Maiko's sencha in general be a better choice?

My feeling is this can only be answered in terms of personal choice. And mine is definitely in favor of Maiko. However I have not tried the top quality teas of either company so I leave that for someone else to comment on.
I feel Ippodo is good but reaches a lower plateau of subtle flavor than Maiko. How, why, what exactly that is is hard to define. As I mentioned, just my opinion.

I think I might agree with this. And, in terms of gyokuro tea, Maiko's Yamashita gyokuro would be hard to beat in their high end offerings. Price may be a deterring factor for some, though.
