Mino clays

by hobin » Feb 18th, '15, 05:25

Hi,
Maybe the teachat potters here can help: what are the different clay types used in mino pottery? I've spotted at least four different types (reddish, white, light beige, orange---but maybe it depends on firing?). Thanks a lot!

Firing method might change the appearance, but i think Mino covers quite a large piece of land, so this probably has to do with the different types of clays found in the area.

I'm googling around for information. It seems that there are 3 types of clays: mogusa, gotomaki and odo tsuchi.
mogusa seems to be the white one. gotomaki is the beige one?
no idea about odo tsuchi though
