I have been trying to master kintsugi for a couple of years. I'm most interested in applying it to yixing clay pieces because it is something that one rarely sees (being rather multicultural) -- I enjoy the contrast of the gold with the simplicity of the clay.
Here are my most recent efforts.
This teapot had a broken lid.
My goal is to make the seam visible, but flush.
The inside of the lid was difficult.

Well done, futurebird. How did you start learning? Did you take a class or something?

No class, just buying supplies online and reading everything I could find.

Well, I've gotta say that these professional-looking results are even more impressive considering you're self-taught.
Any pointers on how I could start learning?

I hope I never have to fix one of my teapots, but if I do, I'm fixing them with SOLID GOLD!

Is it using real urushi lacquer, or something else?

You know, when I first heard of kintsugi, I thought it was a type of goldsmithing, done purely with molten gold and lots of fine motor skills.
When I found out how it was actually done, I thought to myself, "wow this actually could be doable." Good to see that it actually is, with some effort and practice.

It's real urushi and tonoko powder. Takes a lot of layers.tingjunkie wrote:Nicely done!!!
