Greetings everyone
I have found this tea pot for next to nothing on Craigslist
It seems to be never have been used.
another member of my small but growing collection.
According to the previous owner it was a gift from a Chinese visitor 30 years ago and since then it never left its box and was stored in a non smoker house.
It pours easily and in a straight pattern and holds about 250 ml , no chips or signs of use.
I would be interested in finding out more about this, since the only thing i know about "square" pots is that hey are difficult to make and fire.
Any help is greatly appreciated

My guess (just a guess) is that it's likely late 70's early 80's. The craftsmanship is very low quality, so to answer your question- no this was not difficult to make or to fire. Just a very mass produced, commercial quality pot. The good news is that the clay looks pretty decent from what I can tell in the pics. The clay reminds me a lot of Dragon/fish pots from the 70's/80's, which means it might be pretty good for puerh and roasted oolongs.
Hopefully some other folks will chime in with more info, but I'd say you are not sitting on treasure, but at least you have a useable pot with decent clay.

Good stuff, it's a pity they made a bit of a mess with excellent clay. Still the most important thing is that it pours well rather than perfect looks and poor performance, so how about it? Does it brew good tea?

I have not brewed tea or seasoned the pot yet as i am torn between Da Hong Pao and a shu pu-erh

Try both Before "seasoning".
Seasoning will come with repeated uses!

At 250ml you're not going to be using it for gongfu brewing, so shu is the way to go. Shu tends to pair much better with a wider range of pots as well.skindeepfx wrote:thanks for the feedback so far
