A surprise find in a used goods dealers shop.

I was out of work early today, only 1432 animals passed down the chain so a bit less than 6 hours. Since we finished that much earlier than usual I had time to duck down the road on the way home and dig though a used goods dealer shop. Sort of like a pawn shop without the pawning aspect, sort of a hospice shop without the hospice aspect.
If Terry Pratchett (RIP Dude) was to write about this kind of shop you would buy mysterious items like magical guitars which cause you to play Music with Rocks In It...

Colour me SURPRISED, sitting on a shelf in one corner was a YiXing pot! I haven't measured it yet but it looks roughly 200 mls or so.

Makers name stamp underneath, no idea who it it, maybe one of you guys can translate and tell me who it is?

Other than a small chip in the rim of the lid (visible on pot pic as a dark spot on the lid/body join, and around 2 O'Clock on the inner lid shot) it is in good condition, no visible staining, consistent colour all over, 9 hole flush filter (no golfball), three little bump legs.

I haven't tried brewing anything in it yet, only got home and having a cold beer at the moment after a hot day.
I've only used my phones cam, my DSLR is non-op

What do you fellas think and what can you tell me about this pot or it's maker?

Always a thrill to find a Yixing pot in an unexpected corner!

And it is well made too, side by side to my "Zhou GuiZhen" fake pot, you can see that the "Famous Maker" pot is a fake just by the difference in quality.

This one is smoothly blended and the lines flow much nicer, the general feel is better. There is none of the little bumps and clay residue left around the inside of the other pot on this one.

Only cost me $10 too!

kiwi303, Glad to know I am not the only teachatter who likes Terry Pratchett. "Music w/ rocks in it," hard for me to conceptualize. Guess it has been too long since I read one of his books.

The pot is receiving it's Christianing now, the Changtai Yi Chang Hao Tuocha I have.


I cleaned it as advised via the interwebs, boiling it for 5 minutes and turning it down and simmering for half an hour, through I passed on tossing in some tea for the half hour boil. This should have boiled any previous tea out of the clay and cleaned it all down.

While rinsing it off before putting it in the pot I tested the pour and fit of the lid. It takes approx 20 seconds to pour from full, full being pouring water in until it overflows and putting the lid on. placing the finger on the air hole in the lid causes it to stop pouring, placing the finger over the outlet hole of the spout allows you to turn it upside down and the lid remains on while full of water.

Pouring into a 250ml cup causes it to overflow but not by much, maybe a 260 to 275 ml pot.

It suits me quite well, I've been pouring from it into a Dilmah loose leaf filterless porcelain teapot as a fair cup. So far, first impressions, I've drunk the Changtai previously brewed in glass in a coffee plunger with a stainless steel filter mesh, same glass cup. The clay seems to have toned down the slight musty mushroomness of the shou and brought forward some fruity/cherry, wood-smokey flavours. Nice.
