Wow! finally found a domestic source of authentic Japanese kitchen teas, in Edgewater, NJ, Mitsui Plaza! They sell bags of 50 mugicha bags for $2.50! And genmai cha - five different kinds! I got the Itoen - 300 grams for $3.50. Also another traditional tea, a smoked green mixed with barley shoots. I need more tea containers.
Also, Yuki sent me a box of greens from her local Jasco in Nara, Japan. Good times, good times.
If anyone is in the Northern NJ / New York City area, try to get to Mitsui Plaza. Trust me, it's awesome.

I've traveled all across the US riding those things. I've riden more coasters than I'd like to admit. It is my husband's passion, and I love him very much...
In exchange, I plan to convert him to tea. It has not been easy

We made it!
After 2 attempts to get into the crowded parking lot on Saturday, my honey and I finally made it to the Mitsuwa Marketplace.
This is a very dangerous place for those saving $$$
I bought a $7 tin of Matcha (it's super tiny
) and a bag of buckwheat tea. My sweetie purchased $20 worth of Japanese beer. I am a complete sucker for Japanese confections, and the candy isle did not disappoint. What was great about the super-small parking lot was that the store itself was not overflowing with people. There was also some fantastic shopping outside of the Food Market itself.
Definately check out Mitsuwa Marketplace. Don't go mid-day on a Saturday if you can help it. I look forward to going back so I can take my time and explore more!
