I thought it looked interesting. Wheel thrown and the clay looked decent, and it looked pretty well crafted. The high international shipping put me off. Doesn't look like Yixing to me, but I could be wrong. What was it and was it worth the price paid?
Re: Who bought this pot?
Chao Zhou, probably. Or, maybe it is one of the low-end wheel made Yixing that Lvwen mentioned are being made.
Re: Who bought this pot?
Exactly what I was thinking too, on both counts, but I can't read the Chinese.
Re: Who bought this pot?
Chaozhou man, Chaozhou pot. Looks OK, they brew good puerh. I don't know who bought it but when I opened that page I just saw the seller's avatar and cracked a good laugh: a cat being crowned like a king by cherubim?

Re: Who bought this pot?
Lol, I missed the avatar. That is funny, especially the way you described it!
Re: Who bought this pot?
It says on the bottom stamp that it's Zhongguo yixing.jayinhk wrote:Exactly what I was thinking too, on both counts, but I can't read the Chinese.
Re: Who bought this pot?
Received this pot today--it was cheap, I liked the carving and the clay and stamp looked interesting. Chaozhou? Also, what's the story behind the man on the bird?

Re: What kind of teapot is this?
Funny, I have a similar pot at first showed, different shape but seems to have same markings on bottom and in the lid :
Re: What kind of teapot is this?
Tsubo,
It appears to be Yixing made. Does it also show the concentric rings on the inside of the lid and inner body?
Evidently, there are wheel made Yixing pots in the market. I guess it was just a matter of time till they appeared.

Re: What kind of teapot is this?
Tsubo, how does the pot perform? We had a dealer from Yixing come on here and tell us the wheel-thrown kind are for tourist-grade pots, but Tsubo's pot and the one I linked to look rather well-made.
Re: What kind of teapot is this?
A wheel thrown pot can be well made but it is not a traditionally made Yixing pot. The consistency of the clay has to be changed to throw Yixing clay. Maybe this is why they are called 'commercial grade' pots. They shouldn't fetch the same prices as traditionally made ones.

Re: What kind of teapot is this?
It is a Yixing thrown made teapot alright. On the bottom, the 7 characters of outside half circle means literally"good teapot makes good tea" The 8 characters in the central block means "Thrown made by Mr. Ma, Yixing, China". The small 1 and 2 characters on both sides of the central chop mark is the maker's name., Ma Jianlin.
There are different opinions on thrown made Zisha teapots in China. Some people are more tolerate, thinking it is an interesting experiment. While others are more conservative, thinking they are not made in a traditional way, which might change the porous structure of the Zisha material. Also, it is also suspected of adding additional material to make Zisha suitable for throw making.

Re: What kind of teapot is this?
Sounds interesting. I want to try one out now.
I'll see if I can find a quality wheel-thrown Yixing on Taobao.
