Happy Valentine's Day.
Love of tea is in the air ... and so is change. But you didn't hear it from me.
... ok, well you did.

And that sounds a little ominous--are you going to be leaving us, Chip?

I am still firmly committed to TeaChat and the forum community. I am not going anywhere. Sorry to sound ominous.

Hopefully good change!

So...it certainly is a change. I'll give them that it looks more modern rather than the last version which was more of a just how about we take down the site for a week and make the colours worse. To me personally legibility has been reduced, but that's just the way of things now as you aren't going to find many designers who actually like information density. At least if I reduce the browser font size a couple of times I can fit two, that's right two! whole posts on the screen at the same time....
For complaints that have some small chance of being acted on, it sure would be nice if it showed topics with unread posts and let you skip straight to the first unread as it used to.
"Stealth" edit is not so stealthy

Oh and to resurrect another complaint from the previous redesign, having the pager only at the bottom suuuuuuuucks.
Edit: They also once again got rid of any indication a topic is sticky.

Yes, we really need page selector at the top and bottom of forum index pages as well as within a topic.
Also, on my smart phone at the moment. I had to scroll back to the top of this topic to post a non quote reply.

Looks good, although the graphics at lower top could be tweaked, it's a little pedestrian, and images could be better curated. Cheers.Chip wrote:Yes, we really need page selector at the top and bottom of forum index pages as well as within a topic.

Re: Cha Cha Cha Changes ...
interesting.
i think the top banner that shows some random images and links to a seemingly random assortment of threads is useless and is a waste of space. to be brutally honest, there's no way that a single user of this forum would ever find that useful.
i.e. this thing

also, when viewing a thread, i think that our usernames/info on the left takes up way too much space.
critical feature needed: a link to 'view active topics' should be placed somewhere convenient for easy access on every page.
here would be a nice spot for it:

also here's a link to 'view active topics' for other people to use in the mean time:
https://www.teachat.com/search.php?sear ... ive_topics
also, 'view active topics' looks a bit jacked up. check out the page numbers:

Re: Cha Cha Cha Changes ...
I agree that the top banner is not needed and just gets in the way. I also agree that the space / info density is a bit whacked, with the a full third of the page being taken up by useless blank space where the username/avater icons are. I guess that's just the way of the internet now as everything is being designed for mobile.
On the brighter side. I find the rest of the site to much more modern in layout, colors, and readability so big kudos for that. It also runs extremely fast... not that the old site was necessarily slow, but I definitely notice a difference
EDIT: OK, I admit the top banner is growing on me. As far as useability is concerned it seems like an interesting way to see currently active topics. It just seems too big overall though, like it should be reduced by half. Especially since the pics don't actually refer to anything in the post they could be reduced quite a bit.

I am TeaChat omnipresent ...chingwa wrote: Also... Hey LOOK it's CHIP!!!![]()

Regarding the space for the topic text that is greatly reduced by the posting user info. On desktop computer, the amount of space is easy on the eyes ... easy to read. I do not personally like when text runs across a lot of screen space.
Albeit, it looks imbalanced ... wasted. But the space is visually manageable. I think it sticks out more because there is not a darker contrasting background in this ... dead zone.

The scrolling banner.
If you are set to scrolling under preferences, it just disappears anyway as soon as you scroll.
Might appeal more to newbies. I find it a bit of an enigma ...
