Dark Yixing(?) clay teapot info request

by bleadof » Mar 21st, '17, 04:03

I bought this pot from Chado Teepood in Tallinn http://www.chado.ee . It was sold to me as 80s clay old man style tea pot. I paid 149 euros for it.

I've been using it and so for I can say that it retains the heat quite well. Since the clay is dark I decided to use it steep heicha.

I don't even know the name of the shape itself. Rather I know very little of tea pots so far, so all info is appreciated.

Looks like nice zisha (purple sand) clay to me. Could very well be 80's as advertised. I'll let the more knowledgeable folks weigh in though...

The clay looks to be later than 80s to me. It's also constructed with details to resemble the factory pots (key-like zhongguoyixing stamp) and number in the lid, but the style of the pot and craftmanshipment details doesn't match up to that 80s period, so I am a bit confused. My guess it's a replica made in the 90s or later.

[edit] I should add that the clay looks pretty good though, just doesn't look like the purple clay from 80s [/edit]

Yeah! The replication sounds quite feasible. I've been wondering when did they start making these multihole pots? And how about the shape itself? Does someone know what's the name? I haven't seen these kind of pots before, but I'm also a newbie.

Okay! So this seems like a mystery pot. I've been trying to get details from two places now, but haven't really gotten anywhere, besides everybody seems to conclude that the clay looks to be good. And it does make good tea. :-)
