Greetings TeaFriends.
The best way to help me out is to simply report spammers. This is a HUGE help.
When members post replies to spam, it makes a lot of extra work ... and takes much more time.
You might ask, why the surge in spammers getting on TeaChat. Simply put, Adagio wanted to automate the approval process. This makes less work for me on the front end, but more later it seems.
Thank you kindly.
Best,
Chip

Re: Help with Spammers
There is a post report icon "!" Under each post. Click on that and a report form comes up and when submitted directs whoever sees it first to the offending post.
Agreed, the automated registration activation has not worked properly since it was installed.

Re: Help with Spammers
Looseleafteamarket01 is on the internet as under the same name minus the 01. It looks to be the typical "empty half the spice cabinet to mix with tea leaves and you are a genius tea blender" outfit. If they continue to spam, they could get retribution on Facebook & yelp. I am tempted to telephone them in Phoenix at 602 283 1210 but won't; however, I hope Emily or someone can straighten them out.
The unread posts service & active posts service of teachat is most accomodating (Thank you Adagio) but becomes useless if overwhelmed with spam.
The .com company has more to lose from annoying us, than business to gain from people who like to taste tea more than flowers, candy, and spices.

Re: Help with Spammers
I have discussed the issue with them. I have begun to remove any offending posts. They were extremely apologetic and admitted they had not read the rules. I can assure you they now have.
I am giving them a second chance.

This user looks like a spammer:
viewtopic.php?f=24&p=294230#p294230
viewtopic.php?f=41&p=294232#p294232
Maybe he should read more closely the forum rules...

Wow out of control spamming from Username:bavalababa
Would be nice if teachat could filter participants, like Chip used to do, and let them know basic forum rules regarding new posts and introductions.

Re: Help with Spammers
Yes, this is really out of control... at least there should be a rule that a new user can't post more than 3 posts a day until they get to 10 posts, so that you can catch a spammer before it overwhelms the forum.victoria3 wrote: Wow out of control spamming from Username:bavalababa

Not just bavalababa. I reported many accounts, ban the IP already or ISP and sort it out later if you have no time. Maybe mods are sleeping. :O

Re: Help with Spammers
Unfortunately, banning the IP is not really an option because they are all coming from different IP addresses. We're working on the issue now though, and should have all of the Spam posts and accounts removed shortly.Xeractha wrote: Not just bavalababa. For now, to quell the influx of Spam accounts, we've set registration back to Admin approval so we will approve each new account manually for the time being.
