Hi all,
I'm very new to this and have absolutely no knowledge about these teapots but would love to learn. I bought this teapot (
http://imgur.com/a/e15PZ) today at a local thrift-store because I'd heard about 'purple clay' on some TV show, and after doing some research came to this forum. After seeing how many fake teapots are around, I was hoping to get people's opinions on what it might be - mainly, I was hoping to find out if you reckon it will be safe to use or not

NB: The inside of the teapot isn't shiny, it's just wet.

Looks nice to me. If this were my pot I'd carefully boil it in a pot of water, completey submerged for at least one hour (with some kitchen tissue placed underneath and around it in order to avoid any damage from bouncing around). That's what I've done with all of my clay pots after I got them; as long as there are no odd smells left you should be fine (generally).

I'd even go so far as to suggest boiling it in tea, especially if you know what kind of tea you'll be steeping in it. The tea oils work as solvent. But I suppose this is a bit divisive topic.

Made by Jiang Li-ying (蒋丽英), an Assistant-Master level potter, half hand-made teapot. No problem for using, could be quite okay to brew teas.

Thanks! I was just going to fill it with boiling water and leave it to soak, but I'll be careful to submerge the whole thing now

Can you read what the writing on the pot says, by any chance? I speak a little Japanese and part of it looked like it said 'middle school', but that doesn't really make any sense to me...
