My first teapots

Hi everyone! So these are the first three tea pots that I've purchased and I am wondering if they are of decent quality? Thanks for any help or advice! Pictures in order of price paid, highest to lowest.

Please excuse the patina (but I quite like it). Was using this to brew shou for a while but have since changed to sheng. Approx 140ml

(I have no idea which way this should be oriented)


Second pot, quite large around 260ml +
Lid fit and overall finish on this one is pretty good.
Plan on using for Shou.



This last one was really cheap and I know it can't be authentic. I'm just wondering if it's at least safe to drink from, plan on using for black teas I don't drink very often. 140ml

Hi! 1 and 3 are probably not yixing, I would probably avoid using them... 2 looks like a modern zini pot, on the low end/mass produced, but should work reasonably well for shu or even aged sheng. 260 ml is really big! When you brew for yourself you can fill it halfway

Thanks for the input! #1 I have been using for the longest amount of time - any particular reason not to use it? I paid the most for that one unfortunately. There's no off smells, and it sounds fairly high fired to me. Good fitting lid, etc. It was purchased from a tea shop in Sedona Arizona called trailhead tea while I was there on vacation.

Could you post some pictures of the inside (under the lid, and the spout hole)? Without those pictures I can only make a very coarse evaluation. Pot #1 is made to look old, but the clay texture looks off to me. Good duanni does not look like that: in this one the clay looks too "uniform" in between the black specks.

#1 did not look like that when I purchased it. It was very clean. The staining is the result of me being a novice and using it for many many pots of dark shou puerh and sometimes letting it sit a very long time.

If it's not authentic, that's ok. As long as it's safe to use. I'll get you more pictures. Thanks for the help!

I have a teapot similar to your 1st teapot completely unused ,similar clay ,shape and decoration and I like it though i have not used it at all

It could be safe but I am not 100% sure.
More commonly duanni looks like this: https://www.instagram.com/p/_fgNFvl9k3/ , but it's one of the types of clay that has most variation in its appearance. The main thing that I find odd is how uniform it looks in between the black iron specks. Often duanni looks more grainy, like the one in the pic I linked, but also if it's more grey in color, like this: https://world.taobao.com/item/544294293 ... VAs#detail
So despite the variability between types of duanni, the "grainy" nature is what I usually expect, it's usually made of many small particles rather than of a very uniform substance with black specks.
I can't exactly tell how uniform or grainy is the texture of yours in between the black specks.
