I wanted to see if any Yixing Zisha clay researcher/expert can give me some feedback regarding the clay of this teapot? It has thick walls, it's heavy, inside looks rough, and I am planning to use it for shou pu erh as it holds heat pretty well.

Modern Qing shui ni. Why not? Ripe pu adores thick pots, for sure, and yours looks like one. Enjoy!

Thank you Bagua for providing input on this teapot. I was a bit uncertain due to limited experience with Yixing. I was comparing it with my 70s zini and 90s di cao qing, and came to a conclusion it was in the zini category clay.bagua7 wrote: Modern Qing shui ni. Why not? Yes, but unless you used a strong flash then you might be right. However most zisha is made of QSN. Di Cao Qing is in most instances mixed with either Zi Ni (darker colour) or QSN. But in both instances quality DCQ will have the pig liver colour with gold sand, tiny specs that resemble shiny gold.
In either case the pot is perfect for your intended use.

The workmanship seems not very good. Have you already used it for some time? if so the clay is also just so so..

I haven't started using that pot. I do have to agree with you that the workmanship isn't that good. I still have my doubts about the safety of that pot mainly because poor workmanship and on the bottom of the pot has 施小马 stamped. In terms of lid fits and pouring speed, it's decent.
