Need help buying a teapot from ebay

by Ofek Nagar » Jan 1st 19 9:27 am

Hi!
I've been looking for a Yixing clay teapot for a while.. The thing is, where I live (Israel) there isn't any chinese tea store (only Palais Des Thes and some other non-authentic stores that sell mostly flavored tea, maybe some of the real stuff but certainly not proper yixing teapots)
Anyway, my only option is online, which isn't ideal.
But I've come across this teapot in ebay that seemed nice to me...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Chinese-Yixing ... nav=SEARCH

Any thoughts on this little one?

Thanks, Ofek

Hello Ofek,

You could also take a look at the tea swap section of this forum. There are many pots for sale now. As you are pretty sure that you aren't dealing with sales people, it can be more reliable. And you can find a an older pot, which could mean better ore, for a good price.

Cheers,

Thanks, I'll check it out! Although shipping will probably be a problem..
Any thoughts on the pot I found on ebay?
Or maybe you guys can refer me to a good web store?

Looks shiny. Not good.

A HK vendor that sells genuine contemporary Yx pots:

Also a Malaysian vendor that stocks older pots:

I have purchased an early 80s F1 pot made of QSN and very happy with the quality because it's pure clay and it's easy to tell. Craftsmanship is average but who cares when the clay isn't mixed like most pots today, plus it's old.

Most of those pots from Malaysia vendor look low quality to me. I’d be curious to see the early 80’s f1 you got from them.

Hi bagua7, I wonder if you can share some knowledge on identifying pure clay from the 80s or older yixing zisha clay in general? :o
