March 7th Discussion

by Bridgette » Mar 7th, '20, 00:00

Hello communiTEA drinkers,

Today we have Ti Kuan Yin!

Our fine version of Ti Kuan Yin produces a cup that is warm, soft and soothingly mineral in texture. Notes of toasted walnut and tender collard greens. Intriguing lingering floral aroma, lightly orchid and gentle astringency.

What are you detecting in your cup?

I could not possibly have been more disappointed to discover that this was the tea of the day. I had seen from the packet that it would be an oolong. I generally like oolong teas, so I was pleased. The moment I opened the packet, though, I knew exactly what they'd sent.

This tea was my very first green oolong, all those years ago. And my very first 1-star review on Adagio's website.

My words from that review still ring true today: if I had to describe the word "green" as a flavor, this would be it.

I will say that, if I had the opportunity to update my review, I might change it from a 1 to a 2. I don't think that's because the tea has changed much (although that's a possibility, growers and suppliers change over the years). I think it's because I find the taste of freshly mown grass slightly less offensive than I used to.

I love oolong tea and was excited to try today's tea. I opened it and thought, "Did they make a mistake? I didn't know there was green oolong." Not a green tea fan I hesitantly tried the tea. I was surprised that I like it, but I will stick to buying black oolong tea.

I absolutely LOVE this tea!!
I actually had it just yesterday! I think the most important aspect when brewing this is to have the right amount of time. I like to brew Gong Fu style and use less water (200ml) and only steep for about 15-25 seconds! I usually re-infuse it several times throughout the day! And it is delicious!!
I love the light but intense flavors of this Oolong.

i brewed this tea fully expecting not to like it, but i'll be damned....i'm in love with it! It tastes like greens and earthiness and it's a very mild tea. Definitely will be buying this one next time i place an order!
