Use of Yixings

by deadalchemist » Apr 7th, '07, 12:05

I searched through the forum and couldnt find anything recent or too relevent, so I apologize if I'm reopening a topic. I just bought a new yixing, and it is in the shape of a laughing buddha. So its very oddly shaped. I dont like the idea of just dumping my tea into the pot (and its a large yixing, actually, so i'll be using a lot of tea at during a sitting) because I dont know if it will become stuck in areas where I cant see or whatnot. Its not an easy pot to clean out. Is it wise to use with an infuser or disposable teabag? I know its a silly question, but i wasnt sure if it would take away from the pots absorption of the tea essence. Thanks to all who can help!

What I do with my Yixing pot is use just enough tea so that all the tea is poured out after each infusion so the leaves are not stewing in the water. After several infusions you can just swirl some water in the pot a couple of times so the spent leaves are dislodged from any crevices and just dump in the sink if it has a strainer in the drain to catch the leaves. It should clean out fine.
