I’ve decided to part with a long-term teapot of mine... it’s a F1 Neiwailinjiang Biandeng dating from the 80s.
Neiwailinjiang means it’s a Zini core, but coated inside with a layer of Hongni. A lot of these are haphazardly done, but this one is finely coated to a degree it’s almost not noticeable, very good workmanship. The result is a deeper red than a full Hongni. NWLJ has another attribute which makes it very attractive - it’s gathering a nice patina very fast due to different expansion rates of Zini core and outer Hongni layer. It’s beautiful!
The performance is somewhere in between Hongni and Zini, more like Hongni. This particular pot in its shape excels at brewing Yancha and Dancong. But I did use it with Gaoshan and other rolled teas to good effect as well. For rolled leaves just use a little less leaf than you normally would and expansion in a flat shape is not really an issue!
It’s quite light and balanced, a pleasure to handle.
Neiwailinjiang is rarer than Neiziwaihong and this one is a very well done example.
I got this pot in mint condition and the patina is from my usage. On request I can reset it before sending it out.
Volume is between 70-80ml.
