Tokoname for tea other than Japanese green?

by Buzz Fledderjohn » Nov 4th, '07, 17:26

I currently own a Tokoname kyusu and have another on the way. Does anyone use their Tokoname for anything besides Japanese greens? I was going to dedicate one to sencha, gyokuro, etc but what other teas would benefit from the Tokoname?

It's kind of illegal...

But sometimes I'll put some China-whites in my kyuusu.

I use Tokoname yaki for anything that I don't brew gong fu style, end even then, I have had succesful results with a kyusu and gong fu--you just end up using a lot of leaves. I have a kyusu for Chinese White, Chinese Green, Japanese Green, and one for Black.

I use one tokoname pot for oolongs, but it is the top-handled type, not the side-handled, so it certainly doesn't "feel" out of place for me. Though I do want to get a side-handled tokoname just for greens very soon, just to be traditional, perhaps.
