Other interests/obsessions?

by scruffmcgruff » Nov 24th, '07, 02:43

Perhaps connoisseurship isn't the right word, but do any of you have other interests that you approach with the same level of thought as tea? Wine, beer, spirits, particular foods, even coffee (*gasp*), you name it. Not that I find tea uninteresting, but I'm always on the lookout for new obsessions... :)

I don't think any other consumption product that I fancy is on the level of tea.

That being said, I do love soup... Specifically, ramen noodles, or udon/soba noodles, or any Asian soup........ I enjoy beer, but I'm hardly a connoisseur... I've been known to enjoy a bud light or two *Be gone Beer Snobs!* But I also love Kirin Ichiban and Asahi Super dry ;-)

...I have dark chocolate virtually every day. I am not quite so much a chocolate snob as I am a TEAsnob though.

Non consumed obsession. I love to bike, the kind you peddle. I am an avid road bicyclist, sometimes competitive. In season, I will often ride 200 miles a week, and will still ride in the winter when it is well below freezing.

I wish I had an obsession as healthy as Chip's cycling...but alas, no.

Reading for me, but y'all already knew that. I'm also a cooking fanatic. (I bought a nice pot over the Thanksgiving Holiday. Yowza. I hope that the ecstasy from finally owning a nice piece of cookware will carry me through the rest of my application process.)

chocolate. I'm trying to get into more interesting chocolate-especially when there is an interesting ingredient. I love, love, love chocolate with cayenne pepper or paprika ala Vosgses. Mommy just bought me a nice box for xmas, so I'm very excited about it.

I used to sew and craft a lot, but I just haven't had the time. I still buy books and have lots of fabric, but the inspiration hasn't struck just cos I'm too tired or busy to do anything of it.

Like Mary, I love to cook. I have to stop buying cookbooks and cooking magazines. I really want to take the CIA bootcamp course up in Hyde Park for a week. It's quite a bit of money, but I'm trying to save up. Part of me wishes that I had stayed at JWU and transferred into their culinary program, but I don't think I can see myself as a chef. Just maybe extraordinary hostess with the mostess 8) Mary, I'm waiting for the day I can buy a Le Cruset pan without having a heart attack.

I too wish I had a healthy obsession like bike riding or exercise. I try to run every day but have put it off for the past month. boo.

Yes, chocolate for certain. Cooking as well. I love really good produce. Seems a lot of my energy goes into keeping my taste buds happy. :D

Other interests tend to go in cycles and with less intensity, but they are: music, art, most kinds of science, and (watching) auto racing.

I dabble in yoga and love it but have been terribly inconsistent.

Holy crap...guess what sort of pot I bought!

A Le Creuset 5.5 quart, cobalt blue French oven. This particular guy was $99 at TJ Maxx. Apparently Le Creuset thinks it should cost $270. Bastards.

If you can, look for something called "Le Creuset Second Choix/Second." They have a a very minor flaw somewhere (my pot's coloring is just a little light on the handles compared to others in that color...but I think it's prettier), but the flaw does not affect the piece's performance or longevity, nor does it negate the limited lifetime warranty.

Drinking tea (especially matcha) rate number one.

I also love dark chocolate, chicken noodle soup and Berry Pomegranate Tea Cakes.

Other interests are reading (and looking at pictures) books about China and Japan.

I also love to monitor the weather (while drinking a cup of tea).

Hop, if you need to ask my rating, you should not play me...lol. JK, once people start talking about more than one or two moves ahead, my head gets swimmy.
