Multi-Use teapot

I was wondering what would be a good style teapot for different kinds of tea. I would be brewing black, green, some oolongs and the occasional white tea. I was thinking a iron tetsubin. Thanks

You might want to look at a glass pot. Glass won't retain flavors and will be very easy to clean. I've used Adagio's and I love it.

Either that or perhaps a glazed pot. A tetsubin might cook your more delicate teas.

Just my opinion.

easy answer:
tetsubin is not a bad choice. glass would be better but breaks easily. anything glazed or enameled is good to use with multiple teas.

complicated tealover's answer:
while i'm not a fan of using metal pots, tetsubin can be nice because even though they have thick walls, they retain heat poorly enough that you can calibrate the pot to the tea by preheating the metal at the appropriate temperature for the teas you mention.

if you use a glazed ceramic pot, just know that the thickness of its walls will effect the teas you want to brew with regards to heat retention.

snobby answer:
if the pot you seek will be 12oz or more, none of this really matters because such large volumes retain heat poorly.

Here's what i ended up getting, kyuusu style teapot. Picked it up from zingermans for $30. I'm pretty sure its glazed on the inside so it should be good for all teas, other than the wall thickness right? I like it so far, brewed some sencha and it works pretty good.

I believe it is around 8 ounces.

"Zingerman's" Gee, that doesn't sound very Japanese! You better make up a more exotic story about how you acquired it.

The shape is very handsome and 8 oz is a practical size.

Just looking at the picture, it doesn't look glazed on the inside, but that's just my opinion.
