Job Promotion?

by Eastree » Jan 16th, '08, 19:12

I've been with the same company for two years plus some. I've been at my current location about 18 months. I've worked my butt off, and applied for promotion several times -- to no avail.

I've watched as people who did not even meet the requirements were promoted to the positions I had applied for, and they were offered the job directly.

Several months ago, someone left and I applied for the opening. Two months ago, I saw yet someone else working beneath me get the job. So I said, 'Screw it.'

I stopped trying so much. I did the bare minimum, and whatever I had to do so I didn't get any of my coworkers in trouble.

Last week, I was called to the manager's office. They did a quick interview, leaving me baffled as to why. I hadn't applied for anything in months. Yesterday, I was called in again. The manager offered me a promotion that I had never applied for. He gave me a hell of a raise, too.

I feel like I live in Office Space.

Congrats, but yeah, you live in Office Space. I'm sure of it.

Promotions and money are very nice! Now you can buy more tea!

Want more proof? I dated a coworker for a while, and she'd never seen Office Space. So we watched it. When Bill Lumbergh made his appearance (TPS report ordeal) she said, "Oh my god! That's <name of a member of management>!"

And yes. More tea stuff is in order.

Wow, it really is Office Space! That's awesome! Now you just need to pull a Superman 3 on your company with your two disgruntled co-worker friends.

Fine...90 billion pieces of flair.

One can never have too much flair. Unless you are Al Gore. Flair leaves a footprint.

I was a Software Engineer and Systems Administrator in another life. I worked in Office Space for 16 years. I know it exists.

Now there is a straight shooter with upper middle management written all over him!

Congrats bud. Keep it up! You may just be president some day.

I already have the stapler (I just had to). Perhaps this would suffice for work, except we're not allowed anythign on our oh so nifty vests

This is why I'm staying as far away from business occupations as possible. Management! Grr....
