first of all, sorry if I started a similiar topic, but couldn't find anything.
had anyone tried http://www.tokoname.or.jp/teapot/ ? some choices of teapots and cups are amazing. I tried mailing them but no reply so far.
I got quite excited about the idea of having one of their pots since website says they have no problems with sending stuff abroad.
also, I was thinking about rishi's kikumaru, but then again i had no luck finding some nice cups.
can anyone help out?

Hi Hirtue, I never saw that site, very intesting. I need to look into them a little more.
The kikumaru is a popular pot around here. A bunch of us, inclusing myself have one. It is a very nice high quality "white" clay kyusu. Matching cup... I have yet to find Tokoname white clay teacups. So, Rishi does have nice kyusu.
Are you looking for other sources of Japanase teaware? Not sure what your question is?

First, that's an awesome sight. I peed myself when I saw their online catalogue.
The kikumaru is a wonderful pot to be sure, but I think you are on the right track with that site. I prefer buying pots from Japanese companies because 1) the prices tend to be better and 2) you get a better selection.
Example of price differences: My favorite Tokoname artist/potter/ceramist is Shimizu Genji (Hokujo). I paid 170 for one of his pots from Rishi, but 125 or less from Artistic Nippon. Same thing with his samashi, 60 vs 45.
True, the shipping is/can be higher. But I bought the two pieces together and only paide like 180-190 vs a total of 245 at Rishi. Artistic Nippon shipped it faster, too.

Hehe, that's exactly what I felt. The tokoname from that shop is amazing, and there are really many to choose from.Space Samurai wrote:First, that's an awesome sight. I peed myself when I saw their online catalogue.

Well, I guess I'll wait a bit more for a reply from the shop and if nothing will happen, I'll go for the kukimaru.
Still, if absolutely anyone came into contact with them please do share your thoughts.
Yes, I bought this pot from them:

Takeyoshi Kojima is a good guy. He answered my emails quickly (given the 13 hour time difference) and gave me a great deal on the pot. I believe it was about $42 USD shipped. The pot arrived quickly and well packed.

I'm sorryChip wrote:That site has caused quite a stir here, hirtue...lol...and it is your fault. Major drool factor.

Oh, and thanks a lot Buzz.
However, it quite bothers me that I still have no reply for the e-mail I sent like 3 days ago.

And I still hope to get a reasonable price for shipping, which might be quite difficult, lol.
As for me, I got speechless when saw those two:

Tetsuki samashi 1076 ( http://www.tokoname.or.jp/teapot/yubima/yubima52.jpg ) is also quite awesome. It would sooo match those 2 pots. And I'd like to buy some of the cups, too.
Really? 3 days? That's strange. He usually returned my emails within 24 hours and usually around 5 to 8 AM my time (6 to 9 PM his time). I would definitely send him another email. Let him know what pots you are interested in and he will send you a price quote.
The dragonfly pot is very nice. It has an obi-ami strainer (stainless steel mesh all the way around the inside of the pot) and the lid fits with such precision that there is no play in it whatsoever.

Well nothing came in today, so I sent another mail. Thanks for all the advice.Buzz Fledderjohn wrote:Really? 3 days? That's strange. Man I really can't wait to get one of those pots

Hey hirtue, I'm curious if you got a reply yet? I've sent a few messages and haven't received a response either.
I found another place with a lot of Tokoname yaki wares to drool over.
This place looks like some kind of Japanese tea/teaware super store. They have one English pagehere
That says "We are very sorry that our English pages are now under construction.
Please feel free to write to us in English." I sent a message a few days ago, no reply yet.
Here are a few other places.
