I bought the Taylor Connoisseur Series Tea Thermometer and Timer today at Bed, Bath, & Beyond.
It lets you know when your water is the desired temperature, then counts down your chosen steep time.
It's got presets for (get this) white, green, black, puerh, oolong, darjeeling, and herbal teas. You select one, then use +/- buttons to tweak the settings for your preferred brew.
I posted a video on youtube of me using it on some sencha earlier this evening.
So far, it works like a charm, and the learning curve was pretty painless.

Whoa..TeaGadget Chip needs one of those.
I hope they sped up the actual temp registering. I have a Poulder digital and a Taylor digital, both bought last year. The Poulder registers the time in half the time of the Taylor.
But with the timer built, it is on my short list, and I have around a million BBB coupons around here. They even accept expired coupons, or so the cashier told me.

Unfortunately, I don't have ready access to another digital thermometer for comparison purposes. And my analog stick thermometer is not a finely tuned precision instrument.
I can say, though, that I made a few fine cups of Miyabi (mmmm miybai....) earlier using this little gadget. I give it points if only for radical convenience.

Wow, this sounds like a fun gadget to have! When I eventually get a kettle I'll get this, too.

I hate to sound ignorant, but what is "sencha"? (still learning...!!!)

Sencha is splendor!!!
A little more precisely, it is Japanese green tea that has gone through a steaming process during its manufacture. It is quite different than non steamed green teas, tending to have a fresher, grassier, and more intense flavor profile. There are Chinese senchas, but they are a mere shadow of its Japanese counterparts.
