Wow, great TeaDay yesterday!!! We had a lot of fun finding out a little bit about each other.

And now, back to discussing tea...

This is TeaDay, we welcome you to come and share your cup with us and participate in the daily discussion. All are welcome...newbies to oldies to TEA, we share a similar passion. So, visit here throughout the day, get away from the world and see what everyone else is sipping today.

"...'fess up, how much do you estimate you will spend on TEA in 2008 (Tea only, no accesories)? Do the math!!!" So, get out your calculators and figure out your estimated tea expense for 2008. If you never did this before, just figure your weekly or monthly expense and multiply it out. For some of you, this may be shocking. But we could have wasted out money on far worse things, besides, it tastes great, we love to brew it and it is good for you...hmmm, should be a deduction for medical expence on our tax returns!!!

Of course, come prepared to discuss your estimated expense if you dare, but seriously, no judging one another here!!!!!!

Moderate estimates put me in the neighborhood of 950, but I'll most likely break 1,000--Its only the second week of Feb., and I've already spent around 250.

When you say tea, I assume you mean teaware as well.

I limit my tea expenses to 100 € a month and I stayed within this limit in 2007.
(1200 € a year is approximately 1750$).

Assuming I have an average of 4 teas each day, tea cost me about 0.80€ (1.20 $) per cup, not counting multiple steeps.

Tea is less expensive than wine though and much better for health.

Today I started with Yunnan golden tips, had Hatsumi sencha (from o-cha) and will have soon Darjeeling Puttabong S.F.T.G.F.O.P.1

I do not make loads of money being a writer (I haven't hit the New York Bestseller List just yet ) but whatever money I can spare, I am going to spend on tea. Even money I can't spare will probably be spent on tea.

My estimate is probably way too low. I've already spent over $200 here at Adagio in 2008 and this is only the second month of the year.

Right now, I'm sipping a nice, steamy cup of Cocomint green and waiting anxiously for the Fed-Ex man to get here. I ordered another blend and the excitement to taste it is overcoming.

I too made the assumption that he was including teaware in the tea expense phrase. Oh well!

I started the day with a cup of Earl Grey, when the doorbell rang.

Ever since then I have been playing with my new Kyusu, I already used up 12g of sencha today... I guess my tea expenses will be higher in 2008 :p

I rushed back this morning as I knew my O-cha Sencha was waiting for me... I am in absolute tea bliss at the moment as this is the first proper sencha I have ever drank! The aroma is just amazing and I can't believe the amount of sediment it leaves at the bottom of my pot! However, as I have a slight cold I am sticking to the daily sencha for now and saving the Yukata Midori untill I feel a bit better! I'm also going to get hold of a Kyusu and a Britta Filter before I try and brew some of the really good stuff.

Because this will be my first proper year of drinking tea it is difficult for me to estimate, however I have spent around $42 (£21) on Sencha so far so perhaps $150-$200 over the course of the year?

I use a Brita filter myself, it works realy well.
Since my tap water is way to hard (so much it gets cloudy when I boil it!), the choise is between mineral water or filtered tap water.
Britta makes my tap water taste just like bottled water, and its much cheaper (and more convinient!).
I can highly recomend it.

Just be sure to get one of those pitchers, and not a faucet mount. The faucet mounts dont filter everything, because they have to be much faster.

A familiar situation for me...

I have just have a Tamaryokucha (Palais des thés). Decent, but not the very best I guess. I am waiting for a certain Kevin to add Tamaryokucha to his shop's line up in a few days.

I was brewing another pot of sencha in my 5-hour old Tokoname Kyusu and, when I wanted to get the last drops of tea out, I hit the spout on the edge of my cup! I broke a huge chunk of my cheap mug (got it for free with 2 packs of cofee) but my Kyusu is intact. Not a scratch on it!



I checked it all over and there are no cracks or chips anywhere.
The TEAgods obivously favor me!

I'm making some grapefruit oolong to take to class with me. I estimated ~$200.. but we'll see.

Well being rather new at this obsession, it is hard for me to tell. I have spent a lot so far in Jan-Feb but I expect it will even out and settle down some. But then again! So I went with $600-699 but considering how much I have already spent $700-799 is probably more realistic. If I end up spending more, well that won't surprise me either.

I'm hooked on jasmine tea, and plan to make it my morning tea. It costs $25 for a 5oz package, and I believe that I'll drink through it in about a month's time. So, possibly somewhere around $300. Maybe less since I might go to buying the bigger package, or maybe more. I've only been drinking teas for a few weeks now, so I might find something better.
