Clean your Zoji - or other brands of hot water dispensers.

Just a quick reminder to everyone to run some lemon juice through your hot water pots to clean the lime deposits off. :)

[source -zojirushi]

Fill a glass with warm water and add 1/2 cup of lemon juice from concentrate. If using freshly squeezed lemon juice, please be sure to strain first, so the pulp does not get caught in the pump and damage the pot.
  • Fill the electric boiler & warmer with water and pour the lemon juice mixture into the pot. Boil the water.
  • After the water is boiled, let it sit for approximately 2 to 3 hours. If necessary, you can let it sit for 6 to 12 hours.
  • Empty the pot by pouring out the water and wipe the inside of the pot using a clean towel. If the pot is still dirty, repeat steps 1 through 3.
  • Fill the pot with clean water and set to boil. After the water is boiled, dispense the water to flush out any lemon juice mixture that may be trapped in the water gauge tube.

Personally I just dump one of those pot cleaner packs that Zoji makes into mine. Works great.

Yup, but lemon juice works just as well - I'd drink lemon juice, pot cleaner, hmnn probably not.

Don't forget that with the Zoji (specifically) they have a cleaning mode you're supposed to run for that. I think you're supposed to push and hold the "Reboil" button for 5+ seconds, but would have to look it up to be sure.

Check out the source link in the OP - it puts the cleaning in context for the Zoji cleaning mode. the descaling mode is to 'prevent' buildup, if buildup occurs you do this.
