ITD Tasting Club March Signup -- Beginners Pu'erh

by brandon » Feb 20th, '08, 17:31

Please shoot me your address in PM to sign up for March.

After Guang returns from vacation next week I will be looking for one young (around 2005) pu'erh cake as well as a much more aged sample (likely from Vietnam, these prices are not massively inflated by the mystique of Yunnan province).

I have had about 20 samples of pu'erh now but I still place myself strongly in the beginners category. The field is broad and nuanced, so join me in sampling young and aged sheng!

[Edit by Chip: Also, all players post here as well...it is fun to see who is in the game. But do not post address info here!!!]

In so far:
Fukaman
Fencerman
Salsaman
Spaceman
Chippy-san
Tenuki-san
Robber Baron
Prosinias
Victoria

Puerh makes me itchy in uncomfortable places - I can't wait!

I have puerh samples I haven't even touched yet...to have more would just make me feel guilty. I think I'm going to sit March out, but I do look forward to reading everyone's tasting notes!

I just placed the order for everything I don't already have on hand.
If you aren't listed above, but think you should be, please PM me your address.
Otherwise, registration is effectively closed on this one. I am hoping to be home to get this in the mail next Friday, but I can't promise it.

Thanks for playing!

I was going to offer to switch with you, but now it looks like you have ordered already. So, if you need help, you could send the tea to me and Iwill distribute for you.

Or keep it all for myself if it's really good.

Sorry folks, but it is finally here. I will have your shipments out the door sometime this week, and with any luck, you will actually receive them in the month of March. Photos included for Master Ed.

Image

Smokey, harsh and disgusting young pu'erh from Meng Hai factory sweepings.

Image

Filthy, old wet stored tea from Vietnam, 70's vintage. This was found in a dusty old tunnel along with improvised VietCong weaponry. Make sure to give it a qwick rince.

(If you are new to ITD and not in on the joke, there is nothing wrong with these teas. I tried the mao cha - loose puerh early today and it was rather good.)

Right, so it is no longer March. Technicalities aside, everyone who signed up should receive a package within the next week, with the exception of Prosinias. I have no idea how long USPS First Class takes to get to Scotland.

When packages arrive will be playing the Golden Ticket game.
One lucky contestant (unknown to me) has received a magic pu'erh ticket (nefei) in his packet. The prize is one nefei. Hey - they're cool and collectible.

Please report back on the condition of your tea - I am shipping in bubble packets from Staples. I shipped some tea to Andy awhile back in a sturdy cardboard box with a bit of packing and he indicated in his blog review that it was "mostly dust". I hope this doesn't turn out much worse.
