I have heard a lot about teas, especially green and oolong, and how they can help one lose weight. So I think it would be interesting to see if tea enthusiasts, (who obviously drink a lot of tea), are less overweight than the average american.

I don't believe the poll is geared towards a definitive conclusion to your question, but I am not criticizing it. It's an interesting aspect to find a parallel in claims.

Any way, I don't think *adding* tea to an otherwise unchanged consumption would make a difference in weight loss.

However, replacing unhealthy things with tea can greatly help in becoming more healthy. For example, replacing a daily (or more) soda with tea saves the 150 to 200 calories that otherwise would have bee consumed. The same for snacks between meals.

As far as I have heard, the caffeine has little affect in making any difference.

yea, I realize this is no scientific study, buts I think it will be interesting to see the results of this poll if enough people answer it. And, yes I agree that weight loss from tea drinking primarily comes from the fact that it is a no calorie beverage alternative. I also think, that many people substitute tea for cofee. ANd because tea has less caffeine than coffee, and caffeine slows the metabolism leading to possible weight gain, this could be another factor.

Dude, I drink a lot of tea, 6-8 cups or more, and I haven't lost a pound because of it.

I have been drinking green tea for a long time. The fifteen pounds I lost this past six months weren't green tea related: I just added more cardiotraining without eating more than before.

I replaced Diet Soda with tea for a net calorie change of 0. I have been drinking 2 or more cups of tea a day for 3? 4? years and have gained, not lost, weight. I have not changed anything else about my diet, so, no, tea on it's own does not cause you to loose weight.

o, maybe this isnt true. I guess I have just heard about how a fast metabolism helps you lose weight and coffee slows down the metabolism. Thats why I wrote that, maybe it isnt right tho, maybe this is only when someone drinks like 10 cups a day...who knows.

Eating a typical American diet and being largely secondary count not be even remotely outweighed by just drinking a cup or two of tea each day. Tea can surely support and be a part of a healthy lifestyle but it's not going to cure any disease or make someone lose weight on its own.

i drank tea and i was still a fatty (185 pounds)

since i cut out fast food/soda, ate better, and started exercising i'm down to 145 pounds :D

really? I though I read somewhere that it slows down the metabolism. I googled caffeine and metabolism and got this http://www.neuronic.com/caffeine.htm , it says caffeine (at least in high doses) slows the metabolism...
