Tea Book Suggestions

by Pentox » Feb 22nd, '08, 18:10

Anyone have any suggestions on a good book about tea? I've gone through quite a few of the more high level books, but I don't know where to find a good in depth book. Suggestions pleeeaase.

I have "The Story of Tea" by Heiss & Heiss. It's a beautiful book and covers tea history, processing, customs etc. There's also a long long chapter (140+ pages) called Journeying Along the Tea Trail. I just read the Japanese section - I'm saving the rest for another time. I'm finding the book to be very interesting reading but you should know that it's my first real tea book. The only other one I have is the little intro book that came with my Adagio starter kit.

I second The Story of Tea. A great book and the author has spent time in tea-growing regions. The author shows this in the book as he provides information that could only be found by traveling to the farms.

Yeah, I have that one, and I love it. So far it's the best book on tea that I have found. I'm hungrily searching for more though.

It's probably the best one out there. What we need is a good one on Japanese tea that isn't 99% focused on matcha.

I don't know if these will be as in-depth as you would like, but I have enjoyed the following:

The Tea Companion: A Connoisseur's Guide, by Jane Pettigrew
The Book of Green Tea, by Diana Rosen

I purchased them used at amazon.com

A small book (128 pages) with some good recipes and a brief survey on Japanese green tea exclusively:
New Tastes in Green Tea: A Novel Flavor for Familiar Drinks, Dishes, and Desserts
by Mutsuko Tokunaga

The Art of Tea magazine is an excellent supplement to any books you may be reading on the subject of tea. It is available from the Hou De Asian website.
