I was thinking about purchasing the UtiliTEA Kettle from Adagio and have heard great things about it. But, I have tried other kettles before from places like Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, Walmart, and ALL of them left a funny metallic taste that I could notice in the water, even just smelling it. I cant imagine that it was just coinidence that ar 3 different stores, with 3 different kettles, I got the same result. My conclusion was that all of these kettles had, as best I can describe, a "hot plate" looking thing in the bottom that was exposed to the water. I was wondering how the UtiliTEA Kettle was different, etc. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I have a Utilitea and I don't find that it adds a metallic taste to the water or degrades it in any way. If you look at the photo on the Adagio web site you'll see a black ring around the bottom. That's the base which contains the heating element. It's physically separate from the kettle. The kettle itself is cordless and can be brought to the table.

I've never had a metallic taste out of my UtiliTEA. I love it.
The heating unit of the Utilitea is separate from the rest of the pot. It heats nicely and doesn't seem to impart that icky metallic taste. I think part is the quality. The other part I think is the way it heats.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes -- Douglas Adams.
