Den's $19 Kyusus

by Sam. » Mar 18th, '08, 02:08

Both of Den's $19 kyusus - the kokoro and the yutori - had been out of stock for a while and now they're both completely off Den's website. Does anyone know if these pots will be offered anytime again, or does anyone know of any similarly priced kyusus? I'm still a beginner to Japanese teas and I had thought that they'd make a great first kyusu.

Honestly, your best bet would be to contact them and ask them. Den's could give you a more reliable answer.

I was told by Den, a while ago, that the Kokoro would be back in stock around May.

[Edit: The first suggestion of mine was too dumb even for my standards. It has been replaced with a better alternative below.]

How about "we kokoro'ed them"?

Almost certainly. I have the other 2, and they're both glazed.

Looks like Den's has some of those style kyusu's back in stock for the shincha. Interesting color to it.

After reading this post, I decided to purchase one of these $19 teapots and it arrived by UPS today. I've used it a couple times, and it's been a very nice teapot. Not bad for $24 total. I've brewed sencha and oolong in it just fine using a gongfu style method. Even with the built-in strainer it's still relatively easy to clean out by dumping the leaves out and washing out with just water. It's my first 'true' kyusu, though, so I don't have much previous experience. I do have another kyusu, but it was made in China. Hehe.. not exactly a kyusu. ;)
