ITD Monthly Tasting: April- Toss up.

by fencerdenoctum » Mar 22nd, '08, 00:59

Hey everyone,

Sorry about the delay on posting about the April tasting. I kind of lost my mind last week and I'm just now reeling it in. After being prodded by Chip, I'll get on with it.

As you can tell from the subject, April is a toss up. I'm currently trying to track down a source for this new Hawaiian tea that I've been hearing about. Apparently there is a budding (forgive the pun Mary) tea estate down there. I would love to get my hands on some of it just for the sake that I feel like we would be on the sipping edge of a new tea frontier (either that or it will be horrid).

My other idea is the Nilgiri Handmade from Teasource. I've heard some great things about it and while tracking down some of the Hawaiian mess, I had another ITD member mention that that it sounded a good choice. So there you have it. Sign up, you are going to get tea either way. I'll post once I get my hands on one or the other.

Don't be shy now.

I have heard about the Hawaii tea also and have been interested and as it just so happens was looking for more information myself this past week. I have some family there, so I can put some inquires out and try to help.

If it doesn't pan out that's fine too, I might be able to run with it in October.

I'm also down for either.

It would be interesting if you could get your mitts on some Hawaiian tea. From what I can tell, the plantation is still in the planting stage. I don't think they'll be harvesting for a couple years yet, but I might be wrong. I've not heard it directly from the owner or anything.

I'll try either. Put me on the list.

So, I got an email from Mike Longo at the Onomea Tea Co. in Hawaii and YES they are having a harvest this year! They are gearing up for it as I type this. Sadly, they can't throw any free samples my way, but thats not gonna stop me. Yar.

Now we are truly on the sipping edge! (I really love saying that)

I also took the liberty of telling him about wikicha. The fellow seems really keen on it and wants to be a part I believe. Any info on joining it? Wikicha isn't my baby, so I'll leave that up to the fathers/mothers.

Awaiting Hawaiian tea,

All he has to do is make an account and write. We'll do any necessary formatting/editing, so he doesn't have to worry about that. Be sure to emphasize that we are trying to be neutral, so while he can certainly mention his farm/company/establishment/whatever as Hawaiian tea is pretty much unique to him (IIRC), he shouldn't self-promote, or else we will have to break out the red pen. :)

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to drop a quick line to let you guys know that all I'm waiting for is for Onomea Tea Co. to get back to me on when the teas will be available for purchasing.

If they don't get back to me soon I may just go with the nilgiri.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I feel like I'm dangling a carrot in front of everyone.

Hopefully we shall be sipping soon.

Yourn,
Fence

If there's still room, I'd like to get in on this.
