I make a mess when I go to measure out my tea leaf from adagio's sample size tins or other sample size envelopes. What do you all use? I've seen bamboo scoops on vendor web sites, but they look large. And my "tea" spoon for "a perfect cup of tea" is too round and makes a mess. My dustbuster is getting a lot of use.

I know there has to be a best practice out there. I'm in the same boat as TeaSweetie.

Interesting idea...neat...but more dirty dishes...and more teacups to purchase...

I, like others here, use a digital scale.

Oh yeah. That's one idea. I have an old analog food scale that I used to use for measuring hops while brewing beer. Will have to pull that sucker out of storage though.
Something like this:

Amazon has them as low as $4

I have a digital scale. But what do you use to scoop the leaves onto the digital scale, or what do you use when you don't need a scale (e.g. for rooibos, etc.)

My tea scoops:
But honestly, thos sample tins are pretty small, I don't think there's an easy way of getting a scoop in there.

I just use a digital scale with a flexible sheet of vinyl about 4 inches square. I shake out my 4 grams of tea onto the sheet, curl the sheet and pour it into my pot.

I use a little leaf-shaped metal scoop, it has a point on it and works well in the Adagio sample-size tins. Totally solved my leaves-all-over-the-counter problem.

A number of sites have it, but the cheapest I found was from stash.com for $5. Last year I bought a bunch of them and gave them as gifts with a tin of tea to a select group of tea-loving friends.

In all honesty I use the green plastic teaspoon that's in my kitchen set, and it works very well. No mess from the sample tins yet.

Be Pro and just pour the leaves directly from tin to teapot. (I cheat and measure the correct amount of leaves with digital scale the first time with any new tea)

Thanks for all of your suggestions!

I decided to order the leaf-shaped metal scoop from Stash.

The second one from the left is one of the cherry bark tea scoops. You can find those everywhere.
I know I have seen them at :
Den's Tea
Lupicia (in store only)
Asakichi (no web store)
Holy Mountain (quite a few actually)
