Today I was breaking up one of my pu erh tea cakes. I had already broken up about half of it and I was breaking up the other half. I found a feather in it! It's about 1/4 inch long, dark brown, there is no mistaking it, it is a feather!
Has anyone else ever had anything like this happen? How did a feather get in my tea, anyway?
Congratulations! I have found feathers, bugs, hair, bits of cement, half a pumpkin seed, and even once a cigarette butt (that was gross, and we sent that tea back) in sacks of tea. Tea is a natural product, picked by hand and often processed in the open. Stuff gets in there. Its not so big a deal.
Just pick out the feather and enjoy your tea! Boiling water makes it sterile anyway, right?

Pu-erh is processed very much as it has been for hundreds of years, and as a consequence, you will find various 'suprises'

I got a hair once! I suppose I wish I had gotten a feather....I suppose the order I would choose in reference to what people here have found would be: pumpkin seed, feather, hair, bug, cigarette butt....i dont know though...hair bug and cigarette butt are all pretty gross......but good pu is good pu i suppose!
We had racoons find a way into our crawl space and use it as a community latrine until we figured it out. I grew up on a farm so was all ready to crawl down there and clean it myself until I did a bit of internet research. I can just imagine having a parasitologist as a parent, if we all knew half of what was out there none of us would sleep at night.

With 7 cats I find kitty hair everywhere, including freshly opened food packages. Google photos of the drying process. Tea is spread out over mats or just concrete. All kinds of things can blow in.
Have found human hair, rice. All sorts of little bits. If this seems gross then do not drink shu.

I also found a feather once; a tiny downy feather. For whatever reason, the feather charmed rather than disturbed me. Some of the other items that people have found... sound less charming.
