Where to buy Gong fu trays...

by trent » Apr 8th, '08, 01:04

I know there are various threads indirectly discussing gong fu tables, but I thought it would be nice to create a database of the gong fu tables on the internet. I'm currently looking for one, and they're really tough to find.

Does anyone know where I can get a gong fu tray that come cost around $50 after shipping?

Here's where I've seen them:

TRoT Small

Puerh Shop

That's all I can think of for now.

Take my advice and do not buy a tray from the Republic of Tea. They leak like a sieve and are poorly constructed. If you don't believe me, ask Space.

Yeah, I read Space's review of it and doubt I would get one there as well. I was just listing it since it was a tea table.

I got a small one from "In Pursuit of Tea" for about $20 or so. I quite like it...and it's leak free. I went to the website and no longer see the small one listed, but they might be able to procure one for you if you asked. They do have a large one available, too.

Their prices include shipping. I've ordered from Kam once and was pleased with the transaction.

Sadly they don't carry the small one anymore, nor can they get it anymore.

Aw! That's terrible!

I bought mine from IPoT because it looked identical to one that Stéphane Erler had once listed for sale on his site. Mr. Erler runs the bilingual (French/English) blog, Tea Masters. He also manages a limited shop through the blog, but sells nothing but teas and ware of incredible quality. If there is something somewhat esoteric that you're looking for--one of these tea tables or a silver teapot, for instance--Mr. Erler can find it for you. I doubt it will be cheap, but you'll probably be insanely thrilled with the product.

I am actually in the market myself for a tea tray and I looked at the Fun Alliance ones which seem pretty cheap, especially with shipping included. Has anyone actually bought one of these or should I pay more and go with Space's Rishi tray (my initial idea).

The Rishi tray is a great one, but Fun Alliance is a pretty reputable vendor, too. There are several trays there that I'd certainly love (particularly this one), so if something there strikes your fancy...I'd say go for it.

Thanks for the links!

Does anyone know what kind of tray is traditionally used for sencha and matcha? It seems there are Chinese trays out there, but I can't find many Japanese trays.

For now, I am considering one of these:

I think you would be better off purchasing a tray from Yunnan Sourcing or Dragon Tea House on Ebay. Much better quality. Of course you will have to wait for it to be delivered but well worth the wait. I am quite leary of buying trays with 1. without a plastic tray underneath or 2. a drainage hole and tube. Ask space about his little adventure and undrainable trays. I personally own a tray from Yunnan Sourcing it it rocks! No leaking yet! (Knocks on wood)

It has lots of room for your teawares and is very heavy and sturdy!
