Best water boiler on the European market?

by battra » Apr 21st, '08, 17:06

Which 220V water boiler would you recommend?

What I would want is a water boiler which
*boils water is fast as possible.
*isn't too noisy.
*has settings for temperature.
*can heat water to a temperature just under 100⁰C (and not boiling the water at 100⁰ for some minute, rendering it unfit for tea.)
*can maintain the temperature of the heated water for a second and third infusion.

I know there are good water boilers in Japan, but I don't think Zojirushi or any of the other Japanese water boiler manufacturers makes any similar models for 220 V...

You must be in Europe, because 220 doesn't work anywhere in US

Yep, though 220V is standard in most of the world.

Silly Madagascar? Silly Brazil! Both 220V and 127V? I can't even begin to imagine how many hair dryers I'd blow out.

Couldn't you just purchase a convertor? I know they make 220 convertors so us silly americans can use our electronic devices around the world, why not just get one of those and than your not limited to what you can get?

As a matter of fact, I was looking through the converters available when I was trying to find a good rice cooker some time ago (another electric appliance which I'd prefer to get from Japan, and which also uses around 1000W).
Most power converters I found could take only 100W, and the best could take around 300W and did cost around $100.
If I could find a good converter this would of course be a solution, though it would feel like a bit of an overkill to get a big power converter just to boil water. :)

Taiwan is also silly that way with a mix of 110/220. Most household plugs are 110, but you have the occasional 220s out there, which can really mess things up.

As for water boiler -- does Braun still sell the WK 600 in Europe? If they do, it's by far the est water boiler I've ever used.

There's a Philips one where you set the temperature. You can choose 40, 60, 80 or 100. Not perfect for tea :(

I have one that shows the temperature and I break the cooking when it's hot enough. If you're interested, I can look up the exact model and fabricator.

MarshalN: Yes, WK 600 is available、so it might be worth checking out!

Beidao:Yes, please! That sounds like a tool for the tea-making scientist!

I don't know whether this one is available in your country.
Tea selector is one of their products developed for tea lover.
I'd suggest it as Tefal has a very good reputation as a producent of decent electronics and household products which last long.
