Zojirushi and gong fu

by greenisgood » Apr 30th, '08, 23:15

Are there any gong-fu'ers who use a zojirushi? I was considering buying one but didn't know how functional it would be with a yixing teapot or a tea table. I really like the idea of a Zoji but am wondering if it would work with any gong-fu style brewing method.

I've tried it before when it's all I had to make hot water, and it does not work.

Basically, the water splashes everywhere. Yes, you can try to regulate it a little and make it splash less, but part of the art of tea making is to be able to control how the water goes into the pot. With a Zoji, you can't.

(Disclaimer: I have never used a Zoji, so the following anecdote is not from first hand experience)

Some time back, at least a couple people were talking about liking their Zojis for gongfu, even with the messiness.

I do use a Zoji, and I think it is perfect. The spout is high over the tea table, so you have to pick up your pot and move it under the spout. Not picking up your pot would get very splashy. Here's a quick video...
