How Tea Saved The Day (Literally)

by Thirsty Daruma » May 12th, '08, 21:51

Here's the backstory - for the last two or three years of my life, everyday around 2pm I fall into a deep, inescapable lethargy. My body strongly suggests I take a nap, and I almost always do. An siesta, I guess. Problem is, I nap for a long time, 2-3 hours sometimes, and end up feel like the whole day is wasted. If I don't nap, I end up nodding off every 5 minutes and never seem to get any productive work in.

Enter tea. Tasty enough to make me want to drink it, with the benefit of a smooth caffeine high that keeps me alert but not twitchy, and drops me gently; not like coffee which is like falling off a horse when the caffeine wears off. This last year I've made an effort to up my tea intake whenever I begin to get a bit sleepy and it has increased my productivity approximately a bajillion times over. And in the volumes I drink the caffeine high ends right around bedtime.

In other words, I've added precious hours to my day, which has allowed me to do more things I want to do - learn two foreign languages, lose weight and apply for graduate school.

Thanks tea! *thumbs up*

Nah, seriously though, those hours not spent wasting away in a midday reverie are extremely helpful, and nothing else could wake me from my afternoon slowdown with quite the same elegance as tea.

;) Seriously though, that is a heartwarming story! That must have been difficult to deal with, glad you found a solution!

I could hardly imagine my life without tea, myself. Tea is a blessing to the body, mind, and soul....

It is good that you found a remedy in tea to your sleeping issues. Have you ever seen a Dr. for this. Perhaps, your sugar levels are going crazy and could mean something else?

My Dad has sleep apnea and one time he actually fell asleep while teaching class and almost lost his job over it. I would also check your sleeping, to make sure you are getting enough and good sleep.

But ya, tea!!!! :D

Indeed, perhaps sleep apnea, chronic fatigue syndrome, or diabetes?

I've mostly just chalked up to morning exercise and/or sloth.

Wouldn't this be narcolepsy?
