World Tea Championship

by Pentox » Jun 3rd, '08, 19:42

Does anyone know who won the assorted categories for the World Tea Championship at the world tea expo? I'm a bit curious to try out some of the teas that won.

Yes, in China (around 1000 AD), a tea merchant named Li Quong Du invented sparking tea to draw in more business. Much like a flaming shot today where alcohol is set on fire, so was this tea.

A cup of green tea was prepared and poured. Then a thin layer of gunpowder pellets (not the tea) was sprinkled on top. Then it was set on fire.

Li could never understand why he didn't have repeat business....

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

I am not sure I would like a sparkling tea.....I am just having trouble wrapping my mind around that one, I guess.

Yes, it's a bit confusing - does it mean the first tea listed was the winnerin the catagory, I wonder?

Yay for Adagio Oolong #18 (Jade Oolong)!!

Looks like the teas are listed in alphabetical order according to company name.

Puerh was totally left out. It was sort of sad, really...but then I found the tea chocolate and didn't care anymore. :)

Which is odd, because if you look at their original category list, Puerh is listed under the Hot Tea Categories to try out:

Shu Puer Compressed
Shu Puer Loose

Poking around I found that Sugimoto USA won Green Blend/Flavored with their genmaicha. (I've already ordered some to try it out. ) I'm a sucker

I'm really curious *who* judged these teas. I get the feeling the bunch of us could do much better, ha.
