Less intense than normal...

by scruffmcgruff » Jun 9th, '08, 22:09

Doods, whats up? There were no posts yesterday, and none today until this one. The last one was in the "kittehs" thread, which is about as un-intense as it gets.

So... whatcha wanna talk about (not firefly)?

Yeah...I gotta admit, the lack of activity today sort of freaked me out. But, hey...we're all multi-faceted adults here. It can't be all tea all the time. I'd worry if it was.

If you want, we can discuss public nudity in my new hometown. This story in the Eugene Weekly has had me laughing all day!

I still have yet to know what really is intense. Most true tea discussion I would think would be appropriate for general forum, and anything less than appropriate is well regulated by my common sense.

Hehehe...who knew Eugene was so wild??;)

I cupped 12 teas yesterday for tea tasting...that was fairly intense... as was I, after the fact ...

Pls, speak for yourself, Mary. Thanks for the Eugene update. Now I know where Wesli has been the last week or two ... and I don't want to join him there!

CynTEAa, is tasting a big part of your job? I'm curious for more info about just what you ARE doing when you talk about cupping all these teas. Are you a tea taster? What's the deal? Do you have to drink the whole cup? Why are you doing this? Compulsive personality? or just work related?

I've been kinda wondering lately what the point of ITD is too. Sometimes it seems almost like a place for us to go get nasty, angry, hurt, and cry. The really fun stuff happens in the big forum. On the other hand, it feels cool to have a secret handshake, be one of a chosen few, and the monthly tea tastings. And after all, maybe letting your hair down and yelling once in a while is a healthy thing if we are going to hang around the forum for years on end.

I had a $30 cup of '70s puerh Friday night. That was, by far, the best puerh brew I've had to date. I wish I had more, but more attractively priced.

Drinking intense Fukamushi Maki at the moment.

Den brewed this so intense at the Expo, I had to pucker...he likes it way too astringent for my tastes. I wonder if that is common in Japan. It is strange, this can be brewed virtually devoid of astringency at 158*, moderately astringent at 165*, and mouth puckering bitter at 175*.
blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!

Haha! Yes, I'm one of the tea tasters for Adagio. (Although it can lead to compulsions.) It is an important part of my job, especially this time of year...and I only drink the whole cup if it is a really, really, really good sample. :) Sometimes there are really BAD samples, too. Oh my - what if I was just insanely re-cupping all my teas over and over again....sometimes it can feel that way!

I like having a non-public place to post as well as the main forum. At least it feels private.

And sometimes the 'intense' conversations have gotten very scientific which might have put off newbies prior to the advent of TeaDay.

But maybe I just like being part of the 'elite group?!'

Kool! Do you like take notes or just go "yes," "no," "mmm maybe," "no way," "yes," etc?

We are the Elite Forces of TeaChat. Like the Army Rangers, the Navy Seals, or the Ziegfeld Follies.

Nigel tells the story of the tea taster he learned under. He was a Scotsman with a great ability to distinguish differences in flavor. When Nigel asked him what tea he drank at home, the Scotsman replied, "Tea, bah, I drink hot chocolate at home!"

I know how buzzed I was just trying those tiny samples at the Expo. I did not try nearly as many or as much as you did yesterday. I can not imagine the effect of the caffeine doing this regularly.

Yes, Elite and tiny follies...er-- forces...

Yep, take notes and get to offer my opinion on each and every one. ("No," "Yes" "Gross", "What the hell?" :) )I learned this craft from a German with a remarkable palate.

Usually, you can tell in one or two sips whether it is worthy or dismiss it. So the caffeine intake is not too bad. (Plus I keep a 5 PM curfew on caffeine so it is all out of my system by bedtime.) Yesterday was unusual b/c so many teas were close...or tasty enough to finish the cup. Most tea tasters, like in wine-tasting, will spit.

AND I prefer to be called Her Tinyness... ahem!

I'm going to the super small Victoria/Cynthia forum now.... 8)
