Even if the product referred to actual tea plant seeds, the likelihood of getting any seeds in your leaf is incredibly small. The leaves are first harvested in the very beginning of spring just when new shoots appear. The cycle continues a few times throughout the year, depending on where the bush is located.

But, interestingly enough, the plants don't really flower around the time the bushes are producing new leaves. Without flowers, you can't get seeds. So it's really not anything to be worried about.

Alright, this is interesting. I do not know whether the seeds are poisonous if ingested but I know they are not poisonous to the touch because I have 2 camellia sinensis growing that I planted from seed. If there was a seed in the tea you WOULD know it. The seeds are HUGE about the size of an acorn. I'll get some pics of my plants if anyone is interested, and no I have not made tea from them yet as they are only 2 yrs. old, cant produce enough leaf until they're 4.

But are tea seeds toxic anyway? I have not heard that they are. In fact, tea seed oil is not toxic though it is pretty highly refined or processed.

Anyway...there are many concoctions exported from China that may be harmful. This is an example of yet another one I suppose. The leaf of the plant in question may have health benefits while the seeds of this particular plant are toxic. But it is not TEA, Camellia sinensis.

The report is a bit irresponsible IMHO in that they start out reporting about green tea and to the casual listener, he/she may think there is a life threatening danger in consuming green tea or tea in general. I don't even think this "tea" even contained tea. Yet another reason why TEA should be called tea, and TISANES should be called tisanes.

Makes drinking straight tea even more appealing.

Look, you have to go sometime anyway.

I can't imagine tea seeds are poisonous, especially since the article you cite is not about actual camellia sinensis seeds.

As stated above, this wasn't the seed of the tea plant, camellia sinensis.
