Not to be outdone by Space's formidable post count, Tenuki actually quotes Space to remain neck-in-neck.

With Teaday, Victoria, Sal, and Chip have been kicking everyone's ass on posts. Chip alone is responsible for 7% of everything said on TeaChat.

Wow, arithmetic is fun! Thanks for showing me how to run these numbers, Space.

For Teaday, I come up with:
Sal 5.5%
Vic 7.8%
Chip 12.2%

Total: 25.5% of TeaDay is just 3 people. Maybe we should change the name to MeDay! ... but it's all such critical info!

Of course the mission of TeaDay is to be a tea and gossip spot like a local teabar might be; many of the regulars are more interested in meeting and chatting with friends (a little like the IM sometimes gets) than in tea itself. I dare say half of them have never posted outside TeaDay.

Is there some way not to count TeaDay posts in total post count? We are getting some strange aberrations when you filter for top posters: some of the chattiest teamoms are ranking way up there, while most of the actual experts are no where in sight.

I am seeing the whole thing as sort of a tension between having a big community or a serious community. RFDT, Cha Dao, and the Puerh LJ are serious communities: you don't see many social butterflies in either. But you also don't see nearly the activity or energy level that TeaChat has. Maybe ITD is the TeaChat version of serious.

Well when I came here this whole forum was dead in my opinion. No one was talking. TeaDay has breathed life into this board. I really don't see the negative. TD has encouraged so many people to try many teas they would not otherwise. It also is a starting point for newbies to gain confidence to post.

Posting has increased throughout the forum because of TD.

TeaDay FTW.

Sure a bit of it is chatter, but I don't see that its hurting anything. And as Victoria pointed out, it sure has helped. People who want more intense discussion can start their own club. Wait. That didn't work out.

I don't mean to seriously poop on TeaDay, even though it's easy enough to do so in jest.

But I didn't feel that the board was dead, or even at risk, before TeaDay kicked off.

We were talking, and high-quality information was being freely shared as a matter of routine.

I do think online communities benefit from having a space in which to talk mince, to continue the meat theme.

It's nice to have a space for the sharing of quality information but it's also nice to find out what the people you share the info with think of marmite or music or whatever. I don't spend much time on TeaDay because the ITD gives me a decent insight into the community, albeit not quite as wide ranging as TeaDay. Also ITD is quite handy for pointing out stuff of interest elsewhere on the forum I may have missed.

It doesn't really bother me if someone wants to post fairly frivolously most of the time and provides a few insights every week/month or if someone wants to avoid all frivolity and make every post count, some decent posts are what matters.

I think I lose on both counts as I don't post that often and my signal to noise ratio is not particularly high.
