Tuesday 7/29/08 Possibly starting a tea business?

by Chip » Jul 29th, '08, 02:24

Yesterday, more TeaChatters indicated they are choosing Asian teapots such as Kyusu and Gaiwan. These were the top vote getters. You can still vote and discuss this topic.

Welcome everyone to TeaDay. Let's brew and share what is in our cups today, all day!

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic was suggested by Hop_Goblin. He asks, "How likely is it that your passion or enthusiasm for tea made you think of possibly starting a tea business or get involved in the industry in other various forms?" Have you thought about this, yes, no, toyed with it? Please share.

Thanks, Hop!

I will look forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up, refill, repeat often.

Himalayan Tea

by Salsero » Jul 29th, '08, 02:26

From one of the more remote and exotic locales on the planet, a Nepalese Black without estate or grower specified. Teas from Nepal are also termed Himalayan Teas, since it is in that mountain range that they are grown.

Not directly, but it did spark a discussion between us (spouse and me) about the idea of a teahouse on our side of town. The only two good places are a good 30 minute drive from here, crosstown. Ultimately it is not something we would ever pursue, (one business is enough for now  ) but it was fun to talk about.

Magnificent lily, Salsero!

I chose other. The fact that I am already in the business of selling tea, among other things, pre-emptively squashed any desier I may have had to try to make a living from tea. Its jut not worth it, IMO.

Very hard to say what the future may bring.
I definitely have a strong interest,
but no real plans.

It would be a dream to own a tea shop. Unfortunately, in this hick town it would fail miserably.

Currently drinking blackberry flavored ice tea from specialteas.com after a long ass 12 hour shift.

I just drink it. I am one of the few people to grow up and do exactly what I wanted to do when I was 6 years old, so better stick with it.

I think if tea became a business for me, the enjoyment would leave.

Red Rose this morning. Perfect way to start the day!

Somewhat likely! I've thought about the idea in a fantasy context but can't see myself seriously trying.

Gunpowder is the order of the day here~

Um, very likely for me....! Fortunately, others were nice enough to let me work for their tea companies so I didn't have to start one of my own. :) Even so, it has been hard work but absolutely worth it.

Another day starts with Golden Yunnan ensuring wakefulness and a yummy beginning.
Happy Tuesday everyone!

PS. Salsero, gorgeous pic. Lilies and Nepal -- perfecto! :)

My dream is to open a teahouse or a bar in some scenic place..
The place where anyone can come and have a cup of tea chatting with good folks all day long..

Don't know when it's gonna come true :)

I just drink tea. I have had the (mis)fortune of knowing the joys of business ownership through working in a family-owned business. The public generally believes you are rich beyond belief, leave for vacation and have your little minions run the show for you while you take a 2-wk cruise or come and go as you please. Not so. You work twice as hard for half as much!

AMEN, SISTER!!! And even if you do get away, you're constantly worried about what's going on while you're gone. But there are rewards, too. Our store is hubby's dream & while it's the most demanding job he's ever had (especially emotionally), it's also the most rewarding. We often refer to the store as our 3rd child.

Hop & Chip, thanx for today's topic. It's giving me a chance to give some well deserved props but didn't know how to go about it. As I posted back in mid July, we were on a buying trip for our store & one of the things I was looking for was a tea vendor. I talked w/several companies & got various samples but nothing "clicked". After returning home, decided to check (what should have been) the obvious source & contacted Adagio. I was greeted by none other than our very own CynTEAa who was more than gracious w/both her suggestions based on our needs & product samples. I'm proud to say that our store now carries Adagio teas & teaware!!! :D Thanx, Cyn, for all your help! So to answer today's question, it's very likely my tea passion would get involved in the industry. It's already happened!

W/bfast this morning was Adagio's Golden Monkey. This is becoming a fast favorite, especially to start the day. Have a good one!
