Wednesday TeaDay 7/30/08 Overpurchase tea this year?

by Chip » Jul 30th, '08, 03:54

Yesterday, a lot of responders indicated they have considered a TeaCareer of some kind. You can still vote and discuss this topic.

Welcome everyone to TeaDay. Shall we brew and share what is in our cups today, all day?

Today's Teapoll and discussion topic, has your passion or enthusiasm for tea caused you to over buy tea this year? If you dare to share, please do.

I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up, refill, repeat.

Yes, to the extreme...

Luckily, its been mainly black teas so I don't have to worry about them going stale in a few months, and I can always drink them iced.

I've decided- no matter how hard the temptation is- not to buy anything else this year. We'll see how long that lasts.

I don't think I have bought too much. I usually order more when I'm starting to see the bottom of the tin. On the other hand, I do have some tins that I haven't opened yet, so I might be a little overstocked.

Genmaicha Matcha

by Salsero » Jul 30th, '08, 04:57

Genmaicha is Sencha or Bancha mixed with toasted rice. This particular offering is made with high quality Sencha and dusted with Matcha powder, the pixie dust of the tea world. The cup may be 70 or 80 years old. It’s a very light weight, heavily painted porcelain with a Japanese-esque theme.

Love your pic Sal, as you can see I have a similar style cup, Got it off Ebay a few months ago for 50p! :D

I don't feel like I've bought more tea than I have needed this year which I am pleased about! No tea as of yet for me but I have some iced sencha on the go.
Yesterday's discussion about tea shops has got me and my wife talking again seriously about setting up a tea bar after we have finished our respective degrees, will keep you updated :D

Have a great day everyone!

p.s I am thinking of making an order with Hibiki-an later but have never ordered from them before, can anyone recommend one of their senchas? I was thinking about the Sencha Fukamushi Superior (the one blended with Gyokuro) is it any good?

As my mother-in-law says about her beer: "It's not that much". . . . "Really, I can take it or leave it" . . . "I can quit, anytime!"

Just got my order from Teacuppa. Bought aged TGY & Lady Orchid. Not super impressed with the aged TGY. It's Okay. Today I will try the Oolong rolled in licorace and ginseng. Also ordered some silver needle.

Salsero, I hope you have all this teaware insured! I don't believe I have seen the same item more than once . . . (yes, I am envious)

I stayed within my 100€ per month budget (or just barely exceeded it) for tea. However I couldn't say the same for teaware...

This morning Yunnan golden tips for breakfast and Wakayanagi bancha with my lunch.

define "overbuy" ;)

I have certainly bought a lot this year (and been gifted quite a bit as well). I have had people in my house see my tea collection and stand in awe - but I think that is because they are of the average tea-drinker variety (with a couple boxes of Celestial Seasonings in a cabinet).

I do not think any of it is going to go bad before I drink it - I won't let it happen ;) But, since I have purchased enough that the tea collection has needed to be removed from the kitchen and relocated to the dining room and because it now has its own cabinet and has grown exponentionally - I will say "yes" :)

But, I really don't have a problem....

In My Cup: Serenitea: River (with some sprinkles ala Xine's Bday Tea - I am doing some R&D this morning *grin*)

I suppose it would be in the taste/aroma. Everytime I open a new bag of sencha it always strikes me how much fresher it tastes and smells than the sencha I would have previously been drinking which had been in the tin for a few weeks. Basically... once open drink tea quickly for best results, unless of course it is Pu erh, but then again I don't really drink it.

I voted that I don't think I've done any overbuying, but I might just be in denial. I have a decent number of teas running around and I actually have had to recently prevent myself from opening some samples until I finish off a few of my teas that were getting older.

Ali shan this morning, leftover from last night. Good stuff.

I voted yes I overbought. There is more tea in my pantry than I can drink this year.....I think that might be a bit extreme....but at least I'm happy!!! My vice is tea....pretty harmless in the big scheme of things :D

No tea yet this morning.....still waiting on the water.....probably have keemun, I like that stuff....

Happy Tea Day!

I overbought... a little. But I compensate by sharing the tea with friends and coworkers as much as possible.

My particular vice, let's face it, is teawares :)

Must get around to posting some recent acquisitions - and older ones too, mainly - one of these days. I've got quite a backlog of goodies, but little time to actually take photos of them. Life has just been far too busy lately. Aren't things supposed to slow down during the summertime?!

Yes, I have overbought. And yes to the extreme.
Seriously cutting back now.

Starting this morning with a wuyi from the Oolong box pass:
NCTG Shui Xian

Have a nice day everyone!
