Shu Family
This is about a third of my shu family. The rest are either samples or have been so busted up that they now reside in papper bags. The two Menghai Dayi 0532 cakes on the right and left of the middle row are different years, 2007 on the left, 2005 on the right.
I also have some hei cha which -- with the exception of Jim's 2005 Lui An in bamboo basket -- are all either samples or a busted up tuocha of 3 Cranes Liu Bao.
If you click on the photo once or twice, you should be able to see a pretty big image for detail.
The sheng family is a good deal larger.
Lets see sal... the on in the blue wrapper is a 2008 Menghai 7532 raw cake, and the one in the yellow is the previously sold and returned 2007 0712 raw cake. I'm guessing it just needs to age a few decades or so before its drinkable.
Heavydoom.... I've been impressed with the newer Mengku's. Couldn't tell you how well they will age, but for now they aren't too shabby. Especially when you consider the low prices they are selling for.

I do like them, especially the cheap as hell 8100's, but the tell you the truth, I usually buy at least two of the same cake blindly. They're all pretty cheap, so what the hell.shogun89 wrote:Nice! You sure do beat me. I see you have a few doubles and a triple in there. Are you fond of these particular cakes?

All shu. I don't see a blue wrapper and there is no 7532. The yellow is Menghai Dayi Golden Needle White Lotus 2005. Generally, I have not been very happy with the Menghai shu.Trioxin wrote:Lets see sal... the one in the blue wrapper is a 2008 Menghai 7532 raw cake, and the one in the yellow is the previously sold and returned 2007 0712 raw cake.
The sheng is more work - ugh - but I will probably drag those out too after I finally put these away again.
You nimrod, you had asked what my menghai's were in an earlier post. Seems I'm a nimrod as well though, the blue wrapper is a 7542.Salsero wrote:All shu. Nimrod indeed! I thought something didn't fit right! I guess after hearing so much about the 8100 I was brainwashed into forgetting my original question! Thanks for setting me right.Trioxin wrote: You nimrod, you had asked what my menghai's were in an earlier post. Seems I'm a nimrod as well though, the blue wrapper is a 7542.

I just bought this cake last night, All thanks go out to hop_goblin for the recommendation and the lovely review of it on his blog, The ancient Tea Horse Road. It should be pretty enjoyable and be great for aging.
