Chataku sources?
I'm in the market for a nice, wooden chataku. Does anyone know of a good source for these little guys?

Holy Mountain has a couple nice wooden coasters.
Hibiki-an also has one very pretty one (though you have to buy a pair). And a couple non-wooden ones like this tatami one.
Toru at Artistic Nippon has a couple Sakura bark ones on his site and can get you more, if you ask him.
*****EDIT*****
OK, I have fixed those links. That's what I get for being lazy and just copying from a PM I sent to Henley! I am suprised you guys don't have the intuition to read between the ellipsis marks. Why, back when I was coming up, we made our own url's out of left over food scraps and castoff auto parts .

Damn! My mad ninja skillz were detected!
Yeah, I'd found all three of those chataku before, so it was a simple thing for me to swoop in, fix the links, and delete the complaints. I was going to wait to respond to this thread so that I could upload a picture of my place in Eugene to let Geekgirl know that I won't be getting to Portland for a good long time.
My new home...well, let's just say it will need a lot of work before I can feel good about moving in. I am a snob when it comes to interior design, and post-millennial meth lab just won't do. I thought I'd have some time after moving to see Portland before classes start, but I doubt it will happen now.
Marshal, thanks for the offer! Right now, I'm just shopping in the theoretical, but I'll get back to you on it!

You were lucky! In my day, we made URLs out of roadkill and chewed-up pencil erasers.Salsero wrote:OK, I have fixed those links. O yes, one more excellent source that I stole from joelbct in the granddaddy of all chataku posts. It is Utsuwa another domestic supplier with a small number of very nice pieces, at modest prices.

Ah yes. I remember looking at the Utsuwa listings and droolingSalsero wrote:O yes, one more excellent source that I stole from joelbct in the granddaddy of all chataku posts. It is Utsuwa another domestic supplier with a small number of very nice pieces, at modest prices.

Then looking at the shipping page and sighing

International buyers beware...Utsuwa's shipping page wrote:International orders are not recommended with us due to very high air shipping fees. If you still wish to order from the USA to an address outside the USA, there is a $10 handling fee plus the actual air shipping rate with DHL. In most cases, this fee usually comes out more than the merchandise fee which is why we do not recommend international orders.
The odd thing is that Utsuwa has several stores in Canada (none near me, sadly), but the Canadian line doesn't do mail order! {needed: pouting emoticon} Luckily I'm pretty well set for chataku anyway. But this is sad news for anyone outside the U.S. who was looking longingly at those affordable chataku.
